乔木或灌木，无乳汁。叶互生，常2列，全缘；羽状脉；叶柄短；托叶2，小，早落。花单性，同株或异株；花梗通常纤细，短或伸长；无花瓣；雄花：萼片5-6，稀4，分离，2轮，覆瓦状排列，长椭圆形，背部中肋凸起，顶端尾状渐尖；花盘腺体5-6，稀4，比萼片短并与之互生，舌状或长圆形，全缘；雄蕊3，稀4，花丝合生成柱状，花药2室，药室纵裂，药隔顶端钻状渐尖；雌花：萼片和花盘腺体5-6；子房3室，每室2颗胚珠，花柱3，顶端通常不分裂，常直立。蒴果近球状，室间和室背开裂；种子三棱形。约16种，分布于马来半岛至中国。我国有10种；云南有4种。近年国外有学者把本属并入叶下珠属 Phyllanthus。本属标本均未查到，估计标本错放。暂依《中国植物志》记载，待查寻后修改。

乔木或灌木，无乳汁。叶互生，常2列，全缘；羽状脉；叶柄短；托叶2，小，早落花单性，同株或异株；花梗通常纤细，短或伸长；无花瓣；雄花：萼片5-6，稀4，分离，2轮，覆瓦状排列，长椭圆形，背部中肋凸起，顶端尾状渐尖；花盘腺体5-6，稀4，比萼片短并与之互生，舌状或长圆形，全缘；雄蕊3，稀4，花丝合生成柱状，花药2室，药室纵裂，药隔顶端钻状渐尖；雌花：萼片和花盘腺体5-6；子房3室，每室2颗胚珠，花柱3，顶端通常不分裂，常直立。蒴果近圆球状，室间和室背开裂；种子三棱形。
约16种，分布于马来半岛至中国。我国产10种，分布于华南和西南。
