Herbs, perennial, 40-60 cm tall, with short rhizomes; stem erect, few branched in upper part, pubescent above middle. Middle stem leaves sessile; leaf blade lanceolate, 1.5-4.5 × 0.3-0.9 cm, both surfaces sparsely pilose; rachis 1-2 mm wide, segments linear-lanceolate, margin entire, minutely serrulate or with 1 or 2 teeth on one side, apex acute. Upper stem leaves similar, gradually smaller. Synflorescence a terminal flat-topped cyme. Capitula 5-8 or more. Involucre hemispheric, 5-7 mm in diam.; phyllaries in 3 rows, broadly lanceolate, 3.5-4.5 × ca. 1.8 mm, abaxially sparsely villous, margin scarious, midvein convex, red-brown or deep brown. Paleae lanceolate, apex sparsely villous. Ray florets 8; lamina white, broadly elliptic, apex 3-crenate. Disk florets white, tubular. Achenes oblanceolate, ca. 2.5 × 1.3 mm, with winged lateral ribs. Corona absent. Fl. and fr. Jul-Aug. 2n = 18.

多年生草本，根状茎短。茎直立，高40-60厘米，中部向上被柔毛，中部叶腋时常有短的不育枝。叶无柄，披针形，长1.5-4.5厘米，宽3-9毫米，一回羽状全裂；裂片线状披针形，顶端急尖，全缘，有极小的细锯齿，或上面边缘有1-2大裂齿，有时在下面边缘近基部有1-2大齿，裂片和齿端具白色小硬尖，两面疏生柔毛或上面近无毛，叶轴宽约1-2毫米。头状花序半球形，5-8或更多数排成伞房状；总苞长宽约5-7毫米，疏生长柔毛；总苞片3层，覆瓦状排列，宽披针形，长3.5-4.5毫米，宽约1.8毫米，具宽的红褐色或深褐色膜质边缘，中间草质，淡黄绿色，具凸起的中肋；托片披针形，长约5毫米，宽约1.3毫米，膜质，边缘褐色，顶端疏生白色长柔毛。边缘舌状花8朵，长5.5-9.5毫米，宽3.5-6毫米；舌片白色，宽椭圆形，顶端3圆齿，管部长约2毫米，翅状压扁，瘦果倒披针形，长2.5毫米，宽1.3毫米，具翅状淡色边肋；管状花白色，长3-3.5毫米，瘦果与舌状花的相同。花果期7-8月。
产我国新疆阿尔泰山区。生于河岸、林缘，海拔1530-1950米。蒙古、苏联也有。
